New Award Celebrates Excellence in English Literature

The award is a celebration of the power of reading and writing.

In June 2026, Robert College marked the first presentation of the Excellence in English Literature Award, established through the generosity of Ralph Kanza RA 64 to recognize outstanding achievement in a field that has held special meaning throughout his life. As a student at Robert College, Ralph Kanza developed a deep appreciation for literature and was profoundly influenced by his English teachers. While his career followed a different course, his passion for literature remained with him throughout the years and now finds expression in an award designed to encourage future generations of students.

Established in 2026, the Excellence in English Literature Award reflects Ralph Kanza’s desire to encourage students who share that same passion and to recognize their accomplishments. By supporting and celebrating literary achievement, the award honors not only academic excellence but also the power of reading, writing, and critical thinking to shape young minds.

The first recipient of the award was Arda RC 27, whose achievement marks the beginning of what is hoped will become a lasting Robert College tradition. As the award begins its journey, it also stands as a meaningful example of how alumni can create opportunities that connect their own experiences as students with the aspirations of future generations. Through initiatives such as this, the values and passions nurtured at Robert College continue to find new expressions, enriching the educational experience of students for years to come.
